David Cardenas Shines Again at the Shrine Auuditorium in San Antonio

Surging little man David Cardenas of San Antonio continues to come up big!  "El Giro", as he is known, dominated and outclassed Jaime Guevara of Laredo, who fell to 2-3-1 (0). Cardenas dazzled the packed-out crowd with electric footwork and thudding body attack. Cardenas was relentless and stayed before the Laredo native throughout the scheduled six-round affair unleashing lightning-fast combos and slowing Guevara down with thudding body shots. One in particular, landed for Cardenas and froze Guevara, and El Giro turned it up and jumped on his wounded opponent. That was enough, and the corner of Guevara stepped in and stopped the fight, saving the brave combatant from more damage. Cardenas who was accompanied by San Antonio Spurs swingman Keldon Johnson as usual improved his record to 8-0 (6) and took another step forward to what projects to be a world title shot in the near future.

In the main event of the evening, Uvalde, native, Paul Hernandez lit the crowd on fire in his pro debut. Scoring a first-round knockout in San Antonio back in May. However, Hernandez, who had a huge cheering section, got outworked and outlanded by Brandon Gutierrez, a southpaw from San Antonio who picked up the majority decision to move his record to 3-2 (1).

Javier "El Indo" Fernandez, the fan favorite from San Antonio, moved his record to 16-0 (7), as he beat up a naturally much bigger man in Juan de la Cruz Rodriguez of El Salvador. The fight was contested at 135 a full weight class or two, larger than what Fernandez naturally competes at. The San Antonio-based fighter dilated more footwork and movement then we are used to. He foot at the back foot as the bigger Rodriguez tried to use his weight to his advantage. Fernendez was able to fight the larger man off, and attacked the body, and scored with slicing and accurate combinations, earning him a majority decision by scores of 60-54, 59-55, and a ridiculous 57-57 card.

Two undefeated south Texans put their "0" on the lines and let it all go as Fabian "Unknown Warrior" Diaz of Edinburg and is one of the brightest prospects in the Lone Star State, took on Isaac Bermea of Eagle Pass and as the boxing gods would have it, both warriors left with their 0's intact as the two combatants settled for a disputed draw.  By scores of 39-37 Diaz and 38-38, Diaz moved to 6-0-1 and Bermea 4-01. Diaz seemed to outwork and outland his opponent. The quickier twitchier athlete. Diaz landed consistently with the overhand right and scored with sharp, precise counters. However, he was too straight in and out and often got caught with thudding right hands from Berma at long range. One, in particular, scored that seemed to bother Diaz in the fourth and final round and that perhaps earned the man from Eagle pass the Majority draw.

Also on the card Gutierrez secured a second-round knockdown to bounce back from his first career loss to Laredo native Jiame Jasso back in April and picked up the win by scores of 40-35 x3 to move his record 11-1 (1).

Richard Medina kept his win streak alive, moved his record to 5-0-1 (1), and his comeback continues to cook as Medina picked up a unanimous decision victory by scores of 40-36 and 39-37x2 and picked up his third straight win since taking a 40-month layoff following 2019.Surging little man David Cardenas of San Antonio continues to come up big!  "El Giro", as he is known, dominated and outclassed Jaime Guevara of Laredo, who fell to 2-3-1 (0). Six Shooters: Six Young Texas Fighers who Could Emerge in 2023

1. Fabian Diaz Edinburg 3-0 (1) There's nothing not to like about Diaz, the best young fighter in the RGV is absolutely electric. He strikes so much similarity to a young Teofimo Lopez, a Teofimo Lopez who "still had it"! Everything Diaz throws is hard and violent. He's a seek-and-destroy fighter with superb skills and is always on the hunt. It's not a matter of if it's a matter of when for Diaz. The "Unknown Warrior" made his pro debut in July in San Antonio on a PBC and ran his record to 3-0 (1). He scored his latest win, a first-round KO earlier this month on a Marines Promotions Card. Look for the youngster to be back in the ring on another PBC Card early in 2023

2. Juan Garcia Carrizo Springs 1-0 (1) If you have never heard of Carrizo Springs you're about to the south Texas town in Dimmit County is about 80 miles northwest of Laredo and has a population of about 5,000. Garcia is about to put the small south Texas town on the boxing map. A pure boxer-puncher with excellent fundamentals and one-punch power got off to an explosive start to his career. He made his pro debut on a P4P card in San Antonio and scored a first-round knockout. Unfortunately, The least experienced fighter on the list should be 3-0 but had two victories removed by the Texas Commission, so the only knock on the kid is that he might want to be a little more careful of who he hangs around.

3." Panterita" Jesus Martinez Del Rio 3-0 (1) The Future Of Boxing! The Phenom. The youngest fighter on the list. The 13x US National Champ and International Champ is as complete a fighter as a 17-year-old can be, and under the tutelage of Robert Garcia, the sky is truly the limit. An extraordinary athlete with terrific speed, one-punch power, a high ring IQ, plus all the accolades to back it up. Panterita caught the eye of former world champs Joe Calzaghe and Darren Baker and was the first fighter signed by their Management company ISG. Panterita has already fought on Matchroom Cards and has been streamed on DAZN.

4. Daniel Cortez San Antonio 3-0 (1) the 20-year-old is already being touted as San Antonio's next great one. Cortez trains alongside fellow Alamo City natives and world champions Bam Rodriguez and Josh Franco, he served as one of Franco's chief sparring partners in his lead-up to the unification bout with Ioka. Cortez is a raw talent with unlimited upside, who after a brief but successful amateur career turned pro. He caught the eye of trainer Robert Garcia and has gotten off to an exceptional start in his professional career. He has a style that is made for pro success more than the amateurs and can band on the inside and his elite-level power but has the ability to use his height and reach and box from the outside. A gifted offensive fighter who can box at all three distances.

5. Javy Fernández San Antonio 12-0 (6) Guaranteed action! Fernandez is a pressure fighter, a raw power puncher, who had a way too wide-base. Fernendez was discovered by trainer Rick Nunez of the South Park Boxing Academy and Nunez has his man on the verge of being a breakout star. Fernandez is no longer just a relentless come-forward swarmer. He has learned how to cut the ring off, force his opponents to exchange, and can wear them down. He also snappy jab he uses to get on the inside and much-improved footwork. When on the inside Fernandez is deadly and relentless.

6. Sammy Castaneda Mercedes 9-0-1 (7)- Of all the Fighters on the list we know that Castaneda has the heart. He has that dog in him! The 9-0-1 prospect took a major step up and took on the biggest fight of his career as big-time boxing returned to the RGV as he battled Julio Sanchez in a lackluster fight that he still appeared to win but had to settle for a draw in. Castaneda didn't want to move on and forget it happened and his status as an A-side prospect to avoid a rematch. He was obsessed with the rematch, got his rematch, and delivered. He got up off the canvas and erased a three-point deficit on the scorecard after a second-round knockdown, shook it off, and dominated Sanchez for the remainder of the fight to pick up the MD victory.

A Loaded Three Nights Of Boxing in the Lone Star State

An absolutely loaded weekend of boxing is headed to Texas. In all, the Lone Star State will play host to four different cards. San Antonio has a Friday Card Promoted by Boxing's Finest Promotions. Then Saturday, there is a Davies Entertainment card. The week's action kicks off in Houston on a Thursday night card, with the fourth and final being a DFW area card in Frisco.

The action kicks off Thursday night in Houston on a UCF Streamed card co-promoted by Roy Jones Jr Promotions and ForceTrain/Next Fight Up. The card is headlined, by highly tortured Greek prospect Andreas Katzourakis, who now fights out of Los Angeles, California. He puts his 7-0 (5) record on the line against savvy veteran Cameron Krael 19-22-3 (6) in an 8-round affair. Katzourakis scored a six-round unanimous decision victory over Isiah Jones back in June. In the co-main event, native Houstonian Eduardo Garcia will put his 9-0 record on the line against hard-hitting Mexican knockout artist Abdel Sauceda in an 8-round affair. Garcia is fresh off his summer victory, a career-best win over Dewayne Bonds. The card also features Sugar Land native Bui Ephraim as well as, 8-1-1 Rio Grande Valley native Isaac Torres.

The action moves to San Antonio with two major cards. In Friday night's affair at the Shrine Auditorium, hard-hitting San Antonio native Javy Fernandez puts his undefeated 10-0 record on the line against rugged veteran and former ABF champion Rafael Reyes in the main event. Fernandez is coming off a close and perhaps controversial decision of Weslaco native Cesar Cantu back in August. The card also features all-world blue chip prospect Felix Garcia of Laredo. Garcia, a 17-year-old sensation, sports a perfect 3-0 record and picked up his last victory in the Gateway City by taking a points victory over 18-fight veteran Hector Gutierrez.

The action stays in San Antonio but moves to the Tech Port Arena on Saturday night. The main event is for a vacant ABF welterweight title, as Kevin Johnson 11-2 takes on Alejandro Frias Rodriguez. In the Co-main event Reshard "Too Quick" Hicks returns from a three-year layoff to battle Marquis Hawthorne. The card also features other high-level fighters like undefeated lightweight from Corpus Christi Xavier Nunez and Jason Limon, 4-0-1 of San Antonio, as well as female standouts Iranda Paola Torres and Melissa Holguin, both of San Antonio.

The action concludes at COMERICA Arena in Frisco. The night's main event features the comebacking Henry "World Star" Arredondo. World Star looks to score his second consecutive victory following his lone career defeat against the Fort Worth Wolf Tony Lopez a veteran of 28 professional fights and has been in with premier names like Floyd Schofield, Max Ornelas, Rico Ramos and has a win over Fernando Garcia. The card also features the return of Fort Worth native Jordan Najar 1-0 (0). as well as the professional debut of Juan Gomez.
