Amateur Star Mayra Rodriguez to Make Pro Debut on December 3rd TMB Card

Mayra Rodriguez, of San Antonio, has a lot of titles: amateur boxer, model, ring girl, and now she's about to add one that is particularly important to her, professional fighter! She will be making her pro debut in her home city, on a Team Morones Boxing Card at the Freeman Coliseum on December 3rd. The card is headlined by NFL Legend Frank Gore and co-mained by one of San Antonio's favorite fighting sons, Rick Medina Jr.and will be streamed all over the world. The moment isn't getting to her as she insists she's ready for the moment " I'm Ready... It's a dream come true. I'm super excited about all this'', and she should be. She has prepared herself well as an amateur and won't get stage fright as a result of a successful career as a model and ring girl which has prepared her well for having all eyes on her.

The modeling and being the ring girl has prepared her in a sense she explained, "the opportunity to be a ring card girl came up, and I took it. It helped me get comfortable with the ring and with the people. I feel really good! It's fun." It helped her get over the little stage fright she felt in the first round of her amateur career. She described how she became a ring girl "I have a bestie, who did the ring girl thing and she asked me if I wanted to do it. I said but, I'm a boxer... are you sure? She showed them [the promotion] a picture, and they were like sure!"

Rodriguez got into boxing after she had her second daughter. She needed something to help relieve stress and boxing filled the need. "I was playing soccer at that time and the gym was around the corner, I had a friend that boxed and I tried it out and I really liked it." the San Antonian explained. She started from the absolute beginning and built herself up quickly. She retells a story of her first day in a boxing gym and her coach telling her to jab and she asked, "what's a jab? How do I do it? My coach was like man you hit like a girl... now he knows I'm good."

The model picked up boxing quickly, had a brief but successful amateur career, and decided it was time to turn pro. After fights got canceled during the covid pandemic and the gym was closed her amateur career got put on hold. When she came back from the layoff she knew it was time to turn pro, "I don't want to do the amateur things anymore. After COVID I had to get back on track. I couldn't do amateur boxing anymore I couldn't see myself doing that anymore. I'm ready!!

Now her time has arrived, she will do battle with Abril Anguiano of Dallas and enters the fight extremely confident when asked about her opponent Rodriguez said "I know she's a professional MMA fighter and boxer, and she's from Dallas. That's all I know, I've been training, and that's all I need to know. I'm ready!"

Rodriguez has excelled at every level and in everything she's done thus far. So it stands to reason that boxing at the professional level will be no different and she's definitely in the right city for a successful pro career. San Antonio has produced a list of elite-level women fighters, Selina Barrios had an excellent career, Melissa Houglin is a 14x US national champion and off to a 3-0 start in her pro career and the are other high-level female Alamo City fighters like "Mi Vida Loca" Brittany Ordonez, who will also be featured on the TMB card, however, none have gotten to the peak of the mountain top, none have gotten to a world title and Rodriguez seeks to become the first!

It's not every day that a ring girl and model have expectations like this to become a world champion. The Alamo City native explained that people often think she's different people, including a photographer who was in the same boxing class as her "there was this time I was doing boxing classes, just in my workout clothes. One of the guys that works out with us. He does the shoot for the ring girls. So I go to the shoot dressed as the ring girl, and he tells the coach that she kinda looks like the girl from the class." Not knowing the girl in the boxing class and the ring girl was actually the same person. She told of going to her weigh-ins for her fights and everyone thinking she was the ring girl, not the fighter.

When asked if Mayra the fighter and Mayra the ring girl gets treated differently she replied with the obvious "Yes. of course, as the ring girl you have to be super friendly, and very girly, it's all about what you're wearing, the makeup, as a fighter is the complete opposite. you're tough, you have a different following.'

As you could imagine Rodriguez will have a big crowd next Saturday at the Freeman Coliseum. However, she's not sure if perhaps her biggest fan will be there, her dad. She explains " My dad has been to all my amateur fights. My mom won't go to any. She'll tell me to take care and throw some chingasos! My Dad this time has not said no but has been putting some excuses on why he isn't gonna go. He doesn't want to watch me fight. I get it, I am his baby girl.

Perhaps after scoring a sensational victory on December 3rd at the Freeman Coliseum, as she is expected to do, her Dad will be a little more comfortable watching her daughter take care of business in the professional ring, just as she did as an amateur.

The Future of Texas Boxing On Stage at Tech Port Arena

The Lone Star State has emerged as one of the premier hotspots for boxing anywhere in the world. It is producing world champions and blue-chip prospects at breakneck speeds. Much of that talent will be on display Saturday the 25th in San Antonio at the Tech Port Arena. In the main event, WBC Super Flyweight champ Jesse "Bam" Rodriguez will step in the ring and make his inaugural title defense against legendary former champ and future first ballot hall of Famer Srisaket Sor Rungvisai. Rodriguez could have chosen any number of opponents, much less deserving and accomplished than Sor Rungvisai. However Rodriguez wanted the challenge and wanted to fight the legendary Thai fighter. Rodriguez, who is the youngest champ in the sport, and the first-ever world champion born in the 2000s, is no stranger to a challenge. He won his world title by beating another future hall of Famer on six days' notice and moving up two weight classes in what was perhaps the performance of the year. Rodriguez has emerged from being the hardcore fight fans darling, the fighter that every hardcore fan thought might be special, to the talk of the boxing world and the future of the smaller weight classes in a very short period of time. The 22-year-old now begins his title reign and pound-for-pound run.

Also on the card is 21-year-old San Antonian "El Castigo" Rick Medina, who will put his perfect 13-0 record on the line against fellow unbeaten featherweight prospect Raymond Ford. In what is a massive step-up fight for the unbeaten San Antonian. Recently a picture of Bam Rodriguez, Josh Franco, Mario Barrios, and Rick Medina posed together when they were children went viral. The other three in the now-famous picture have all captured world titles. It is now Medina's turn, and he can take a massive step toward that goal by defeating Ford in the battle of unbeaten featherweights. Ford is Ranked #6 by the WBA at 126-pounds and in the top 15 by the IBF. If "El Castigo" picks up the "W" he will likely replace Ford in those rankings and propel himself into the world title picture at just 21 years old.

Del Rio Native, 14x national champ, and unbeaten Bantamweight prospect "Panterita '' Jesus Martinez returns to the ring just two weeks after making his pro debut in Mexico. Panterita made his debut a successful one. Taking a brilliant four-round unanimous decision against Daniel Nunez Gomes of Mexico. The hard-hitting south Texan wowed the boxing world with his sensational professional debut and was added to the San Antonio card by popular demand. The boxing world wanted to see Panterita again, given his sensational performance in Mexico, and they will get that chance just a few hours from the fighter's hometown. He will battle with Keven Monroy 1-2 (1), and hails from California. Given Martinez continues to look impressive, it is believed he will be moved along quickly to a world title opportunity.

Rick Medina Returns on June 25 in San Antonio on Bam Rodriguez Card

Unbeaten San Antonio featherweight prospect Rick Medina Jr returns to the ring on June 25th  and will put his undefeated 13-0 record on the line when he battles Raymond Ford. He will fight on the undercard of fellow Alamo City native Jesse "Bam" Rodriguez, who puts his WBC Super Flyweight title on the line against former world champion Srisaket Sor Rungvisai at the Tech Port Arena. Medina has predominantly fought in his home city and has built up a massive fan base. In becoming a local celebrity He has fought and beaten very solid competition for being 21-years old and just 13 fights into his professional career. Medina has beaten Omar Castillo of the Rio Grande Valley, Oscar Mojica, and Armando Frausto, in the last 12 months. Ford is ranked #8 by the WBA and holds the organization Continental Americas Featherweight strap will be a massive step up. Ford has an 11-0-1 (6). He was touted as one of the sports premier prospects when he made his pro debut back in 2019. He ran  his record to 8-0 and then fought Aaron Perez to a draw in march of 2021. In his last outing, fFord was awarded a totally bogus decision against Fort Worth native Edward "Kid' Vazquez. A decision that was met with outrage from everyone in attendance and Ford's promoter Eddie Hearn, all agreed that Vazquez had clearly won the fight.

Medina, who is known as "El Castigo", last fought in March and took apart La Marque, native, Armando Frausto in seven rounds at the Scottish Rite Theatre in San Antonio. El Castigo has fought in the San Antonio area eight times during his professional career, winning them all. He also beat Omar Castillo in Houston at the Toyota Center on the undercard of Jermall Charlo vs Juan Macias Montiel. Medina and Bam Rodriguez fought on the same card back in the summer of 2019 on a Rick Monroes promoted card in Floresville. Both fighters scored impressive third-round knockouts.

Rick Medina and other Prospects Shine in Floresville

San Antonio natives Joshua Franco currently holds the WBA 115-pound title, Mario Barrios recently held the WBA 140-pound title and Bam Rodriguez will challenge for the 108-pound world title. Cementing Alamo City's legacy as one of boxing's premier hot spots of young talent. After those names, there is a litany of upstarts who look to continue that legacy. Of all the young fighters 20-Year-Old "El Castigo" Rick Medina may be the brightest of all those stars. The first fighter exclusively signed to Team Morones Boxing Promotions improved his record to 11-0 (6)  Saturday night passing the biggest test of his young career.  The San Antonio blue-chipper took on veteran and ABF champ Rafael Reyes at the Floresville, Event Center.  Reyes was coming off a career-best win a first-round stoppage of undefeated prospect, Ignacio Chairez. Medina boxed beautifully firing the jab off his back foot. He controlled the pace of the fight as Reyes continued to press forward and tried to rough up Medina even losing a point for hitting Medina to the back of the head. El Castigo, however,  wouldn't take the bait. Fighting beautifully he was able to keep Reyes off of him and the few times Reyes was able to get in close, Medina more than held his own. He would slow Reyes down and get back to boxing and moving in securing the lopsided 8-round unanimous decision by scores of 80-71,79-72 & 78-73.

In the evening's co-main event another one of San Antonio's young upstart prospects, Welterweight Sebastian "C-Bass" Rodriguez also took a massive step up against the naturally bigger and undefeated Jorge Hernandez. After three fairly even round Rodriguez seized control of the fight in the fourth round backing Hernandez up with vicious bodywork. Then firing off vicious combinations when he had his opponent backed up against the ropes. Hernandez fought well coming forward in the early stages but was broken down by the body attack and became a stationary target for C-Bass in the second half of the fight as Rodriguez took a majority decision by scores of  59-55 x2 and 57-57 even, to improve his record to 5-0.

The rest of the undercard featured a brilliant performance by super flyweight prospect Guillermo Gutierrez, who moved to 2-0 (1) by brutally beating down  Gabriel Guerrero. Showing off the entire arsenal Guiterrez came out aggressive landing vicious hooks to the head and body. He then slowed down and landed with pinpoint accuracy from the outside. Switching from the conventional to southpaw stance seamlessly throughout the duration of the bout. He nearly stopped a very brave Guerrero in the third and after a long look from the ref and doctor was allowed to continue. Guiterrez stepped on the gas and landed a left hook, straight hand combination that dropped Guerrero and brought the ref in to waive the bout off 18 seconds into the fourth round.

Also,  Oge Harwell, Destiny Jones, Ramon Acosta, and Jeremaine White all were victories in their pro debuts. Harwell, outpointed all-action, fan-favorite slugger Adam Salazar who fell to 0-3, Ramon Acosta destroyed Jose Rodriguez in under two rounds. Destiny Jones put on a boxing clinic in taking a unanimous decision over Janina Lopez. Jeremaine White dropped and dominated Sean Holcombe on his way to a unanimous decision victory.
